Backyard Garden

This is our first garden in three years. Our plot had been neglected to say the least. I wish I had taken a before shot of the thigh-high grass. It took three weeks of daily TLC--more like blood, sweat, and tears--to get the ground anywhere near cleared enough to plant. We started most everything from seedlings in pots so they could get a good start while I prepared the soil.

The tomato plants went in first.

Sticks serve as a rustic trellis for cucumbers plants.

We should have plenty of squash.

Organic fertilizer, affectionately known as "manure tea."

 First tomato.

Calla Lilies add some beautiful color to the garden.
Bumper crop of loquats this year could have used a tad more rain.

A shady place to play.

Stay tuned. Can't wait to keep everyone posted on the progress of our garden!
